Stephen Ware

Hello!

My name is Stephen Ware and I am the Frank Edwards Tyler Distinguished Professor of Law at the University of Kansas.

In KU's School of Law, I teach and write on:

  • Arbitration, Mediation, and Alternative Dispute Resolution,
  • Bankruptcy, Insolvency, and Debt Collection,
  • Contracts and Commercial Law, and
  • Judicial Selection

each with an international or comparative dimension.

I love teaching first-year Contracts as well as upper-level courses. I think students particularly benefit from integrating lawyering skills exercises in which student groups negotiate, mediate, and draft legal documents. Such exercises in my Transnational Dispute Resolution course can be especially valuable for students learning different legal systems.

I enjoy traveling near and far to teach and give presentations on these topics and to learn from others.

I have written five books, over 60 law review articles, and many other publications. My publications have been cited by the Supreme Court of the United States and in at least 37 other federal and state cases.
