Alternative Dispute Resolution (ADR)

University of Kansas (KU) Law Professor Stephen Ware began teaching an Alternative Dispute Resolution (ADR) course in the 1990’s when he was on the faculty of Samford University’s Cumberland School of Law.  At KU Law, Professor Ware has taught Law 860, Alternative Dispute Resolution, several times.

Ware is the author of a widely-used 635 page treatise on the law and practice of ADR: Principles of Alternative Dispute Resolution (4th ed. 2023)

KU Law’s Course Description for Law 860, Alternative Dispute Resolution, is: This course introduces the student to arbitration, mediation, negotiation, and other methods for resolving disputes.  In addition to serving as alternatives to the court system, these processes also play an increasingly important role in litigation and settlement.  This is a survey course, which may include exercises to develop skills such as interviewing, counseling, and negotiation.
